Situated in the hamlet of Allensford you will be an easy drive from Alnwick Castle for some Hollywood magic if you adore Harry Potter or the Beamish Open Air Museum if you want to experience the olden days first hand. Enthusiasts for outdoor sporting and leisure pursuits can enjoy some great on-site facilities or travel further afield for experiences that include fishing, golfing, fishing, walking, hiking and cycling. Visit the historical cathedral city of Durham, and the lively, cultural centre that is Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

With a tasteful economy of interior design throughout this is holiday home makes for a great choice as a relaxing base. The light and airy lounge/diner offers abundant seating and a TV/DVD to catch up on your favourite shows. The lounge also comes compete with a dining table to enjoy meal times at. The kitchen comes complete with an electric hob and oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Also, on the ground-floor is two bedrooms – two twins (with zip-and-link beds which can be made into a king-size). Also on the ground floor there is a shower room with WC.
 
Stepping outside you can explore the 20 acres of shared grounds. You can also make the most of access to some outstanding on-site leisure facilities that include a shared gym, swimming pool, sauna and spa. There is also a bar and restaurant in the grounds to investigate if you fancy something different.

Lovely cottage and hotel, a few hiccups mainly due to boiler not working and cleanliness not upto my standards/expectations.

Spacious property in good location with necessary items available.. Kitchen a little small but manageable. Staff on site were friendly and helpful. Front door keycard/ door handle was tricky to open on several occasions, though staff were fortunately around to help. Enjoyed the swimming pool. We stayed Mon- Fri so fairly quiet around the complex. VRead moreery hilly roads but nice location. Hide

Everything was perfect, there was alot more in our cottage than we expected, also the tassimo really just made it absolutely perfect Stunning location, lovely spa, restaurant was lush, breakfast was great, bar/lounge area was cosy.

A lovely cottage with everything you need for a break. Wi-Fi is pretty patchy, but that didnt bother us. Really handy having the choice of self catering or the hotel restaurants. The swimming pool was nice and warm and clean. The cottage itself was spotless in the hard surfaces areas, but could have done with a good hoover and dust in the bedrooms.Read more All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Hide

Spacious and comfortable cottage, facilities at the hotel are very good, staff very welcoming and friendly. Really enjoyed our stay as there is lots to explore and do in the local area. Let down a bit by the cleanliness of the cottage and no where to sit outside unless you want to sit at the bar. Noise levels from the hotel also disappointing.

We had very mixed feelings about our week in Derwent Cottage, we absolutely loved the area and it was a great spot to explore Durham and beautiful Northumberland. The property itself is not a cottage but an apartment attached to the lovely hotel opposite which is a very busy wedding venue which was often very noisy. We enjoyed our stay. Our cottage was great although could do with updating. The hotel site was super, we had a lovely meal in the restaurant and cocktails in the bar. We enjoyed the on site pool and gym and the location is good especially for visiting Durham and the north pennines. I expected the hotel to be noisier having read some previous reviewRead mores, however we found it a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Hide

Spacious and comfortable cottage. However, slightly limited storage space in kitchen area. Very abundant and comfortable seating provision. Wide-screen TVs in every room but could have done with a DVD player. Good shower. Very warm in cottage (good). Great to have gym/pool facilities pretty much on the doorstep. Nice sauna and hot tub too. On the fRead moreirst two nights there was a do at the hotel. We were very close by so it was a bit noisy but a problem for my wife more than it was for me. Hide
