This annexe-style cottage, set in a tranquil hamlet near Riding Mill, offers unrivalled country views, allowing guests the chance to get away from it all after exploring the Northumberland region.

Set amongst the grounds of an attractive farm, about 15 minutes’ drive from the popular market town of Hexham and only 25 minutes' drive  from the vibrant city of Newcastle, this well-equipped cottage, on the outskirts of  Riding Mill village, is a great base for exploring Northumberland countryside and coastline and the north-east of England in general. Located near a number of Dark Sky Discovery sites, so bring warm clothing and binoculars for star gazing one night. Just a short drive away, you’ll find historic Corbridge, once known as Corstopitum, a Roman garrison town by Hadrian’s Wall with a crossing over the River Tyne. These days, it’s home to beautiful independent shops, and the annual Corbridge Festival, celebrating music and street theatre. Head to Hexham to experience the area’s Viking history, with its ancient abbey and atmospheric gaol – the earliest British prison. Alternatively, your cottage is the perfect place to plan a hike from, with the nearby village of Riding Mill a couple of miles from your doorstep.

Take the single step up into the cottage and you'll find yourself entering the kitchen of this single-level home, which is fully equipped with an electric oven and hob and an under-counter fridge/freezer. Moving into the open-plan lounge/bedroom area, you’ll find all the contemporary home comforts you’ll need for your stay, including a TV/DVD, Wi-Fi and a wall-mounted electric fire with ample comfortable seating to curl up on. In the bedroom area, there is a cosy double bed, with bedside tables and alcove storage for you to hang up your clothes. The en-suite shower room features a shower cubicle, with WC.

The immaculately presented garden is set up as a perfect picnic area, with scenic views of the surrounding countryside. There is allocated parking available for one car.

We had a lovely holiday touring the area with amazing views and sites to visit. The owner was charming and helpful. Cottage was up three steps and basically a single room with galley kitchen. Clean and comfortable but compact. The shower/toilet/washbasin room was roughly four feet square with a 22 inch door. Condensation dripped from a skylight on Read moreto the bed. No freezer and not a king size bed and no views from cottage itself contrary to the description. Hide

The cottage is easily found just off the main road between Riding Mill and Corbridge.Accomodation is compact, with an ensuite shower room and a small galley kitchen. The cottage was amply stocked with kitchen utensils, heating was by electric panel radiator and a very warm electric EVERHOT stove. The accomoadtion is all in one room, which is OK, buRead moret the shower could be awkward for those of a fuller figure. Hide

Courtyard Cottage was in a very quiet area outside of Riding Mill, and it was very clean and warm. The local pub just a couple of minutes drive in Riding Mill provided very good meals, as did cafes in Hexham and the Indian Restaurant in Corbridge. The Sill visitor centre was a short ride away giving access to Hadrian's Wall. The area is steeped in Read morehistory with so many things to visit. In most places free car parking was also a bonus!
